5 Ways I’m Making Our First House Feel Like Home

Before we ever moved in, I already had a Pinterest board full of ideas for how I wanted our home to feel. Cozy, collected, classic, welcoming - the kind of space that feels lived in and loved, not rushed or perfectly finished overnight.
I started with the basics and have slowly been adding little touches of decor over time. I’ve realized that styling a home isn’t really about copying one exact aesthetic - it’s about taking inspiration and making it your own. I love cottagecore, grandmillennial style, Ralph Lauren interiors, and classic cozy spaces, but I also love adding my own personality into it. That’s what style i!
One of my favorite spots in our house right now is our coffee corner. It’s honestly simple: a small hand-stitched art piece from my best friend, a pretty display for our coffee pods, and a few fresh flowers. Nothing extravagant, but somehow it makes the space feel more personal and intentional than just leaving the coffee makers sitting on the counter.

And while I have big dreams for this house someday - like building an L-shaped cushioned bench with floral fabric and adding a pretty pie crust table - I’m learning that creating a home takes time. I’m giving myself permission to take baby steps instead of feeling like every room has to be finished immediately.
Affordable decor swaps are easier than you think, too. Facebook Marketplace has become one of my favorite places to hunt for unique pieces at lower prices, but lately Amazon, Target, and HomeGoods have been my best friends. Half the fun is sourcing random little finds, bringing them home, and figuring out how to style them in a way that feels like us.
I’m slowly learning that home isn’t built in one shopping trip, it’s created piece by piece, memory by memory.
